This sock features a bright blue faience hippopotamus, decorated with elegant lotus flowers that reference its natural habitat. The Egyptians believed these figurines magically supported the rebirth of the deceased, with the lotus as a symbol of new life. At the same time, they were well aware of the animal's danger: the legs were often deliberately broken off to prevent the hippo from turning against the deceased in the afterlife.
