Our socks
Quality, material and care.
How good is the quality?
Our socks are knitted from 80% organic cotton, are 100% seamless and have a reinforced heel and toe. The artwork is knitted in, not printed, so the colours don't fade.
Over 2,600 customers give us an average of 4.4 on Trustpilot. And if a hole does appear within a year? Then you get a new pair for free — see our guarantee.
What are the socks made of?
80% organic cotton (GOTS-certified), 15% polyamide and 5% elastane. The cotton gives comfort and breathes well; polyamide and elastane make the sock stretch, keep its shape and last.
Why do Kunstsokken cost more than ordinary socks?
You're paying for organic cotton, a knitted-in artwork and a pair that lasts for years, with a 1-year guarantee against holes.
Order several single pairs and you automatically get the Mix & Match discount: 10% from 3 pairs, 17% from 5 and 23% from 7. From CHF 39 shipping is free.
How do I wash my socks?
At 30°C and inside out, no tumble dryer and no ironing. That keeps the colours bright and the cotton going for years.
Do the socks shrink, pill or fade?
Not if you wash them at 30°C and keep them out of the tumble dryer. Cotton mainly shrinks from dryer heat; on the line or on a rack they keep their size. The colours are knitted in, not printed, so they don't fade.
Does a sock pill or fray after a few wears? Then that's a fault: email us a photo and you get a new pair.
Where are the socks made?
In Istanbul, Turkey, at a small family business. We visit the workshop every year and know the people who knit our socks. Good working conditions and fair wages are a condition for us.
Our gift boxes are packed by REAKT, a social workshop in the Netherlands.
How sustainable are Kunstsokken?
Organic cotton is grown without harmful pesticides or artificial fertiliser. And a sock that lasts for years doesn't need replacing as often: that's the biggest win. That's why we give a year's guarantee and knit the artwork in, so your socks still look good after a hundred washes.
Are these the same socks as in the museum shop?
Yes. You'll find Kunstsokken in 50+ museum shops in the Netherlands and beyond, and we make a number of designs together with museums such as the Rijksmuseum van Oudheden, Museum MORE and the Stedelijk Museum Kampen. Online you order exactly the same pairs, from our full range.
A design is sold out. Is it coming back?
We reknit popular designs, although that often takes a few weeks. Some museum editions are limited and won't return.
Want to be the first to know? Sign up for the newsletter at the bottom of the page. That's where we announce new designs too.
Are new designs added?
Yes, regularly, often together with a museum. You'll find them under New arrivals. Is there an artwork you'd love to wear? Email us your suggestion, we read everything.
Size & fit
Two sizes, and what to pick when you're on the edge.
Which size should I pick?
We have two sizes: 36-40 (UK 3.5-6.5) and 41-46 (UK 7-11). Pick your normal shoe size.
On the edge (size 40 or 41)? With a narrow foot choose 36-40, otherwise 41-46. Still unsure? Check the size guide with foot lengths. And picking wrong is no problem: exchanging is free.
Do the socks run large or small?
They fit the way you'd expect from a good cotton sock: comfortable, not tight. 36-40 fits from shoe size 36, and 41-46 stretches up to and including size 46. If you're a 45 or 46 with a wide foot, the sock will feel snugger.
Do you have size 47 or larger?
Not yet. 41-46 stretches up to and including size 46; with a narrow foot, size 47 often just fits. Larger sizes are on our list.
Do you have children's sizes?
Not yet. Our smallest size is 36-40 and fits from shoe size 36.
Can I combine different sizes in one order?
Yes. For single pairs you choose the size per pair, including with the Mix & Match discount. Gift sets and bundles come in one size per set.
Are the socks hard to pull on (high instep, wide calf)?
The cuff is soft and elastic and doesn't pinch. The knitted-in artwork around heel and ankle stretches a little less than a plain sock. If you have a high instep or wider calves and you're between two sizes, go for the larger one.
Is there a difference between women's and men's socks?
No, only the size. Every design comes in 36-40 and 41-46, so you simply pick the artwork you like.
I ordered the wrong size
No problem. Within 30 days you exchange for the other size free of charge through our returns portal; you get a free return label straight away and we send the other size as soon as your return is on its way.
Ordering & payment
Payment methods, discounts and changing your order.
Is Kunstsokken a trustworthy shop?
Yes. Kunstsokken B.V. is a Dutch company from Rotterdam (Chamber of Commerce 95992561), online since 2020 and stocked in 300+ shops and museum stores across Europe. Over 2,600 customers rate us 4.4 on average on Trustpilot.
You pay securely with iDEAL, Bancontact, credit card, PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay or afterwards with Klarna, and you can return free of charge within 30 days.
Which payment methods do you accept?
iDEAL, Bancontact, credit card, PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay and Klarna. Ordering from another country? You'll see the options for your country at checkout.
Payment went through? Then you see a confirmation page and get an order confirmation by email within a few minutes.
Can I pay later?
Yes, with Klarna. You choose it at checkout; Klarna handles the rest.
How does the Mix & Match discount work?
Automatically. Order 3 single pairs and you get 10% off; from 5 pairs 17% and from 7 pairs 23%. Every single pair counts, including different designs and sizes. You see the discount straight away in your bag and don't need to enter a code.
Can I put a set together myself, and is that cheaper?
Yes. Pick single pairs in the sizes you want and the Mix & Match discount comes off automatically, up to 23%. With the Bundle builder you put your set together in one go. Gift sets have a fixed price, including the gift box.
How does the free gift in my bag work?
From a certain order value you pick a free pair in your bag: first a pair of Bio Essentials, and at a higher value a surprise design from our range. Choose your size and tap add; the pair then sits in your bag at €0. The thresholds count the amount after discount and you see them in your bag.
Can I combine discount codes?
No. One discount applies per order, and that's automatically the highest one. If you have a code worth more than the Mix & Match discount, the code replaces it; if it's worth less, you keep the Mix & Match discount.
My discount code isn't working
Check that the code is entered exactly as given (no spaces), is still valid and that you meet the minimum order value. Welcome codes are one-time only and don't combine with another discount.
Note: the free-shipping threshold counts the amount after discount. If that puts you just under CHF 39, you'll see shipping costs.
Still not working? Email us the code before you check out and we'll look into it. Already ordered without the code? Email us your order number and we'll see what we can do.
Can I still change or cancel my order?
Only as long as you haven't had a dispatch confirmation. On working days we ship the same day, so email us straight away with your order number and what you'd like to change.
Too late? You can return your order free of charge within 30 days.
I haven't received an order confirmation
Check your spam or promotions folder first. Not there either? Then your email address may have been mistyped. Email us your name and the address you ordered with and we'll resend the confirmation.
Can I get an invoice, or order as a business?
Your order confirmation counts as proof of purchase. Want an invoice with a VAT breakdown for your company? Email us your order number and company details and we'll send it.
Larger business orders (from 30 pairs) go through corporate gifts, with a quote and an invoice. Mention your VAT number if you're in another EU country.
Do I need to create an account?
No, you can order as a guest. With an account you see all your orders in one place and can follow them easily.
Shipping & delivery
Costs, delivery times and delivery per country.
What does shipping cost?
Free from CHF 39; below that you pay CHF 4.90. Always with track & trace. The rates for every country are on the shipping page.
How quickly will I have my order?
Delivery in 2–4 working days. Order on a working day before 23:30 and your parcel leaves the same day; we don't ship at weekends. After that it's down to the carrier: you'll find the delivery times per country on the shipping page.
Will my order arrive in time for the holidays?
Order on a working day before 23:30 and count on the delivery time for your country. Around the holidays carriers are busier, so allow one to two extra days. We publish the final order dates for the holidays on the site in November.
Will my order fit through the letterbox?
Most orders do, so you don't have to be home. Gift sets and larger orders come as a parcel.
Can my parcel be delivered to a pick-up point?
At checkout you'll see the delivery options for your address. If you're not home and the parcel doesn't fit through the letterbox, the courier takes it to a pick-up point nearby; you'll see that in the tracking. In the Netherlands DHL delivers, in Belgium bpost.
How do I track my parcel?
As soon as your order is dispatched, you get an email with a track & trace link. Haven't seen the email? Check your spam folder or log in to your account.
Do you ship to my country?
We deliver to the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, France, Austria, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Poland, the Czech Republic and the rest of Europe. Costs and delivery times per country are on the shipping page. We don't deliver outside Europe yet; email us and we'll see what's possible.
Do I have to pay import charges?
Not within the EU. For the United Kingdom, customs and import VAT are already taken care of; you pay nothing extra on delivery. Only in Switzerland can customs charge import duties and VAT, which you pay to the carrier.
Can I still change my address?
As long as you haven't had a dispatch confirmation, usually yes. Email us straight away with your order number and the correct address.
Help with your order
For when something goes wrong along the way.
Where is my order?
- No dispatch confirmation yet? Then your order hasn't been sent. On working days everything ordered before 23:30 leaves the same day; we don't ship at weekends.
- Already dispatched? Follow your parcel with the track & trace link in your email. You'll also see there whether it's waiting at a pick-up point.
- Has your parcel been stuck for longer than the delivery time for your country? Email us with your order number and we'll chase it for you.
My parcel says delivered, but I haven't received anything
Check the letterbox, ask the neighbours and look in the tracking to see whether it's waiting at a pick-up point. Sometimes a parcel is marked as delivered a day early.
Still nothing after one working day? Email us with your order number. We'll open an investigation with the carrier and make sure you get your socks.
My parcel is lost
We'll sort it out. Email us with your order number; we contact the carrier, you don't have to chase anyone. If your parcel doesn't turn up, we send a new order or refund you.
I received a wrong, damaged or missing item
That shouldn't happen, sorry. Email us a photo and your order number and we'll send the right pair at our expense. You usually don't have to send anything back.
How do I reach customer service, and how fast do you reply?
By email at contact@kunstsokken.nl or through the contact form. We reply on working days, usually within one working day. Mention your order number so we can look straight away.
We don't have a phone number: by email we can pull up your order and help you faster.
How do I stop emails or review requests?
At the bottom of every newsletter there's an unsubscribe link. Don't want review requests any more? Email us and we'll switch them off for you.
Returns & exchanges
30 days, free, whatever the reason.
Can I return my order?
Yes, within 30 days of receipt, free, whatever the reason. The socks must be unworn and in the original packaging. You arrange it in a minute through our returns portal.
How do I start a return?
Go to the returns portal, enter your order number and email address and choose what you're sending back. You immediately receive a free return label by email; stick it on your parcel and drop it off at a parcel point. All the steps are on the returns page.
Can I exchange for another size or another design?
Another size: yes, free. Choose exchange in the returns portal and we'll send the other size as soon as your return is on its way.
Another design: return your pair and order the new design separately — that's the fastest way to get it.
Does returning cost anything?
No. The return label is free and you get the full amount back.
When do I get my money back?
Within 2 to 5 working days after your return reaches us, to the payment method you ordered with. You get an email as soon as it's been processed.
I was given the socks as a gift. Can I exchange them?
Yes, with the order number of the person who gave them. Exchanging for another size is always possible without any money moving. With a return, the amount goes back to their payment method.
Guarantee
One year on every pair.
What does the guarantee cover?
A hole, a loose thread or another fault within a year of buying? Then you get a new pair for free. No forms and no return: a photo is enough. Everything about the guarantee is on the guarantee page.
How do I claim the guarantee?
Email contact@kunstsokken.nl with your order number (or the email address on your order) and a photo of the fault. We send you a new pair at our expense; if the design is sold out, you pick another one. You don't have to send anything back.
Does normal wear count too?
Within a year, yes: a hole is a hole, even if you wear your socks every day. After a year, wear and tear falls outside the guarantee.
I no longer have my order number
No problem. Email us the name and email address you ordered with and we'll look the order up.
Gifts
Order gift-ready and send it straight to the recipient.
How is my order packaged, and is the gift box included?
Single pairs come in our letterbox box, each pair with a card about the artwork. The gift box in the photo only comes with gift sets: those arrive gift-ready, with the socks in the box.
Want to give single pairs as a gift? They're nicely packaged even without a box, and with the Bundle builder you pick exactly which pairs go in.
Can I include a gift message?
Not at the moment: there's no personal message with the parcel. If you're sending the gift straight to the recipient, let them know yourself that something lovely is on its way.
Can I send the gift straight to the recipient?
Yes. At checkout, enter the recipient's address as the delivery address and your own as the billing address. There's no invoice with prices in the parcel; the confirmation comes to you by email.
What if the recipient needs a different size?
Then the recipient exchanges free of charge through the returns portal, using your order number. No money moves back and forth.
Socks as a corporate gift or client gift?
From 50 pairs, with a discount and, if you like, your own logo or artwork. Request a quote through corporate gifts; you'll hear from us within 48 hours.
